Tina Goar, Executive Director, Northwest Board of Cooperative Educational Services          COLORADO, USA

PROGRAM SUMMARY: Rural school leaders face many leadership challenges in leading their schools. Research has found that it is essential for rural school leaders to receive distinctive professional learning aligned to their rural context. The Principal Learning Community model of developing and fostering rural leadership skills unique to their rural position has been a successful professional learning opportunity implemented in the rural mountain region of Northwest Colorado. This session will provide you with the background and steps taken to develop and implement a principal professional learning community based on the research of best practices in rural leadership and the needs of rural school principals.  An opportunity for conversation and networking with your fellow session participants to discuss how this model could be implemented in your region or school district will be provided.
